20 Projects for a continuum
The redevelopment of the Paradiso lakeshore consists of an 800-meter-long urban renewal. The project’s guiding principle is two promenades along the shore: the uphill road along the cantonal route with a tree-lined cycle-pedestrian path, and the lakeside promenade with a pedestrian walkway above the water. In a heterogeneous urban and landscape setting, the two promenades interact through a series of “belvederes,” spaces crossing toward the lake, and a series of thematic gardens. These elements set the rhythm of the narrow lakeshore and become identifying and connecting elements. Other structures are integrated into the context, for a total of 20 separate architectural interventions, unified by the gesture of the new lakeside walkway. This includes landscape elements (lake, lakeside promenade, parks and gardens) in the presence of San Salvatore, urban and architectural elements (five different squares (belvederes) with buildings, parking, a pool with service buildings, a marina), and the cantonal road, including slow traffic routes.
