A space with a suspended bed
The old alpine hut, no longer used for livestock, is transformed into a habitable space. The existing walls, including the openings, remain untouched, while the space preserves its unity. A new roof, raised 30 cm above the previous one and avoiding the base beam, creates a continuous horizontal slit along the entire length of the building, set against the old masonry wall. This slit becomes a panoramic window onto the mountain peaks and gives the space something it never had before: light. The roof, a folded structural element made of two connected slabs and supported by a tie rod, serves as the load-bearing structure. It also forms an insulating layer. The bed is suspended from the roof, and the space remains undivided, defined by its four walls: old stone masonry beneath a timber roof clad in boards.
